Thinkbacktothefirstwaveofglobalization.OutsourcingliftedaggregateGDPnumbers,butithollowedoutindustrialecosystems,displacedworkers,andleftlastingsocialandpoliticalscarsthatwestillconfronttoday.LetusnotbringthatsamedynamicintotheAIera,withatinynumberofAIsystemscapturingalltheeconomicrents,whileentireindustrieswatchtheirhard-earnedinstitutionalknowledgegetcommoditizedrightoutfromunderneaththem.

Inmyview,ourcollectivepriorityhastobebuildingafrontierecosystem,notjustafrontiermodel—onewherevalueflowsbroadlyacrosseverycompany,everyindustry,andeverycountry.Anecosystemwhereeverysingleorganizationcanownitsownproprietarylearningloopthatencodesitsuniqueinstitutionalknowledge,continuouslycompoundingbothitshumancapitalanditstokencapitaltogether.

ThisisthecoreplatformethosIhavebuiltMicrosoftaroundoverthepastdecade:greatplatformsenablefarmorevaluetobecreatedontopofthemthantheycaptureforthemselves.Thatmeanseverycompany,fromstartupstomultinationalenterprises,getstocontinuouslyinnovate,buildproprietarydifferentiation,andretaintheeconomicvalueofitsuniquedomainexpertise—regardlessofwhichunderlyingfoundationmodelpowersitsinternallearningloops.
